Treatment Tools
Dr. Marjan believes that no one type of treatment is best for every patient. Instead, we offer a variety of treatment options to meet the needs, goals, and budget of our patients.
Types of Braces
Different types of braces and orthodontic options are used for different purposes and goals. Some patients require more complex treatment, while others are focused on aesthetics. A few of the types of services that we provide are:
Traditional braces
Traditional orthodontics are appropriate for almost every patient. They can be used to treat minor to severe misalignment needs, and utilize orthodontic arch wires held into place with small bands or ligatures on each bracket.
Ceramic braces
Ceramic braces are tooth colored brackets that work the same way as traditional braces, but blend in with the appearance of the patient's teeth. They are a choice cosmetic option for our older patients.
Adult orthodontics
Adults are some of our favorite patients! Depending on the need of the patient, we may recommend traditional orthodontic treatment, invisible braces, or a combination of orthodontics with jaw surgery. Jaw surgeries are recommended when anatomical structures prevent teeth from being able to have proper alignment.
Invisalign
Invisalign braces are clear, "invisible" alignment trays that reposition the teeth without the need for brackets or wires. Each alignment tray is removable, for easy home care and mealtimes.
Dentofacial orthopedics
This interceptive treatment helps prevent further complications from developing from the patients anatomical structures or tooth eruption patterns. In many cases it limits the length of orthodontic treatments later on. It is sometimes referred to as "growth modification".
Types of Appliances
Interceptive treatments involve the use of appliances for the purpose of guiding proper tooth eruption and oral development. Some of the appliances we may choose to use include:

- Functional appliances
- Palatal expanders
- Space maintainers
- Headgear
Retainers
Wearing a retainer is an important step to ensure maintained success of your orthodontic treatment. Teeth can relapse into previous locations, and retainers keep that from happening. Removable retainers should be worn for 24 hours each day for the first year after the removal of braces. Afterward, wear your retainer every night when you sleep. Fixed retainers are bonded to the teeth permanently, and should stay in place for several years.
Retainer Instructions
Remove your retainer at least twice a day and brush it thoroughly with a soft toothbrush and water. Fixed retainers should be brushed thoroughly and flossed around at least once a day. A floss threader or water flosser is a simple way to clean underneath retainers and between the teeth involved. If a fixed retainer comes detached from the tooth, call our office at your earliest convenience to have it bonded back into place.
